Today, the Rs 150 crore company caters to the camshaft requirements across verticals in the domestic and international market. In India, PCL enjoys nearly 85% market share in the camshaft sector.
Starting out in top gear
After graduating from the Mumbai University in the Commerce stream, Mr Shah did his Masters in Business Administration with specialisation in Finance and Computers from the Pune University.
He began his career with Bharat Gears Ltd in Thane before returning to Solapur to join his family business of manufacturing auto components.
He worked with Chetan Foundries from 1987 to 1994 during which he contributed significantly towards modernisation and automation of the business, which resulted in unprecedented growth for the company.
With an aim to develop a niche product in the camshaft segment, he conducted an extensive market research and incorporated Precision Camshafts Private Limited (PCPL) in 1992. PCPL later became a listed company and was renamed as Precision Camshafts Limited.
Leading from the front
Under Mr Shah’s leadership, PCPL grew from a small facility manufacturing 7,200 camshafts a year in 1994 to become the largest manufacturer of camshafts in the country. In 2007 the company manufactured in excess of 36,00,000 camshafts and is aiming towards manufacturing one million camshafts per month in this year.
Mr Shah took all the necessary steps required to set up a world class camshafts manufacturing facility equipped to produce customised products. The company has an enviable customer base, including some prestigious global automobile companies such as General Motors (GM), Ford, BMW and Porsche along with domestic majors like TATA Motors, Hyundai and Maruti.

Mr Shah was also nominated for the prestigious ‘Best Solapurkar of the Year’ award for two consecutive years in 2006 and 2007.
Life beyond business
A keen educator, Mr Shah is the visiting faculty at various business schools in Mumbai and Pune, where he lends his industry expertise to specific academic subjects.
Apart from being a voracious reader, Mr Shah is an enthusiastic badminton player and likes to travel. He is also involved in various socio-developmental activities in Solapur and undertakes different projects to promote the city as a favourable business destination.
His initiatives have been successful in attracting investments and improving infrastructure facilities in the city.
