Machinist – Personality of Fortnight

A ‘green’ vision

Krishnendu Ghosh, CEO, Energy Plus India

Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome! Freakin' Awesome!
Today, the depletion of fossil fuels such as coal, hydrocarbons and heavy crude oil has become a matter of grave concern. Research and development of new processes and technologies is in full swing in order to conserve fossil fuels for a secure tomorrow.

Kolkata based Krishnendu Ghosh is a Diploma-holder in mechanical engineering and a conservationist at heart. With a zeal to provide a fillip to the practice of energy conservation, he incorporated his company, Energy Plus India, in 2001. Today, the company is a leading turnkey project executor providing quality installations, operations and maintenance (O&M) and other allied services to various sectors.

Green exponent

Unlike many entrepreneurs, Mr Ghosh did not start his company with an aim to make profits. He had a vision. “As an engineering student, we had studied how big organisations and different industrial sectors could play a significant role in reducing pollution and conserving energy for a better future. But, unfortunately, very few practise these methods in reality,” rues Mr Ghosh. It was this realisation that inspired him to start a company that would not only generate revenue and employment, but would also contribute to the degrading environment.

A strong supporter of the idea ‘clean, green and efficient’, Mr Ghosh pioneered the concept of how fossil fuels could be used in producing thermal energy for industrial use. “From the very beginning our focus was to provide such services to various industry sectors by which they can reduce fuel and power expenses, increase system efficiency and, in turn, lower the emission rate of pollutants,” points out Mr Ghosh.

A motivator in charge

When it comes to daily operations, Mr Ghosh not only leads a huge team of engineers, technicians and boiler operators, but also motivates them to work as an integrated team. It is very clear to what extent his positive motivation has worked, when he explains, “We have successfully completed a number of Indian Boiler Regulation (IBR) jobs and have even carried out 100% radiography quality welding. As recognition of our hard work and dedication to quality we have been approved by the Boiler Directorate in West Bengal and Jharkhand, and can work with any Boiler Directorate in India.”

One step at a time

Speaking about his success trail, Mr Ghosh says, “I am a first generation entrepreneur who started his own venture after working for 15 years in reputed engineering firms. So, I had to learn the business, especially the economics of business from scratch. In the initial years, it was difficult for me to carry on the huge expense of production, since being a small entrepreneur it was difficult to get funding from banks.”

Within a very short span of time, however, Mr Ghosh has emerged as a successful entrepreneur, and has managed to work with some of the biggest names across industry verticals. His client list includes reputed names like Bata India Ltd, Berger India Ltd, Bhushan Power & Steel Limited, Birla Corporation, Britannia Industries Ltd, Cipla Pharmaceutical Ltd, ESAB India Ltd, Reliance Engineering Associates Pvt Ltd and Thermax Limited among many more.

While elaborating on his sustenance tactics, Mr Ghosh says, “At the end of every financial year, we analyse the previous year’s business and plan for the forthcoming year. We concentrate on each project and ensure that we are fulfilling our commitments. This has helped us gain an edge over our competitors.”
