Solar plant to be set up in AP

Abound Solar and Solarsis have jointly set up a 1MW solar photovoltaic plant at Kadiri in Andhra Pradesh

Abound Solar, a leading manufacturer of next generation thin-film photovoltaic modules, and Solar Integration Systems India Private Limited (Solarsis), a leading solar system integration company in India had almost a year ago had announced their partnership, targeting the fast-growing Indian solar market. The two companies have announced setting up of a 1MW solar photovoltaic plant at Kadiri in Andhra Pradesh (AP). With the solar power market in India picking up pace over the past few years, this move will be a value addition for the market.

Venkat Rajaraman, CEO of Solarsis said, “This plant will generate operational data on different technology performance in Indian weather conditions as this 1MW plant uses 620KW of thin film based on Abound modules and 380KW of crystalline silicon with single-axis tracking technology.”

According to Craig Witsoe, president and CEO of Abound Solar, “India is a key market for Abound Solar due to our US-made CdTe panel's excellent performance in India's climate, our commercial focus over the past 2 years, and our successful use of US Export-Import Bank financing. We have a significant installed base in India and see this growing in 2012. Solarsis is a good partner for us, offering project and local industry expertise.”

Commissioning

The commissioning of the plant officially took place on January 14, 2012 and the project was commissioned under the Rooftop and Other Small Solar Power Generation Plant Scheme administered by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission.

It is the first project in AP to use Abound Solar Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) thin-film modules. The combination of Abound Solar's low-cost modules, along with Solarsis’ home-grown racking and mounting solution, cut down on the overall balance-of-system cost of the project. Acting as a pioneer in the field, this project will drive others to achieve the best in the solar sector segment and add impetus to the sector.
