The trailers, which will be manufactured at the company’s Rewari plant, would not only be used for increasing the company’s fleet but would also be exported to various countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Mercurio Pallia is already working with most major automobile manufacturers in India.
Trends have gradually changed over the years and today business is more volume driven, where the focus is on doing as much work as possible, opined Vipul Nanda, CMD of Mercurio Pallia to the media.
On the new facility, Mr Nanda remarked that it would help the company deliver a very new generation of trailers, which can help its customers cut down on the cost of delivery and maintenance.
Boosting auto-logistics segment
The company’s new offerings will certainly boost the domestic auto logistics sector, which is picking up pace in recent times.
According to Gaurav Singh of Gaurav Road Lines, a small-sized logistics and transportation services provider in Chandigarh, “The auto logistics sector is gaining prominence with many international original equipment manufacturers (OEM) flocking into the Indian market. Therefore, the need for quicker and safer transportation in the auto sector has increased.”
Speaking on the company’s future plans, Mr Nanda said that once the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applicable, Mercurio Pallia would also look at the possibility of using the Railways for transportation. For this reason, the company has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FreightStar.
Mercurio Pallia plans to manufacture special wagons for the railways to carry automobiles, cars in particular, across India. Such specialised railway wagons for automotive transportation will be manufactured by the company’s logistics arm, Mercurio Pallia Logistics Pvt Ltd, which plans to invest Rs 69 crore for the same.
