Samsung releases innovative Smartphone platform

Samsung Electronics recently announced the launch of its new Smartphone platform, named Bada. The new platform clearly indicates that the focus of the cellphone industry is shifting towards the software domain. The product is a support platform for software developers packaged with a userfriendly multi-featured interface that supports a wide range of applications like games, and Internet. Moreover, the product also boasts sensing technology that can detect motion and facial expressions and supports social networking and various other interactive applications.

According to Hosoo Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Media, the company will first explore the midrange market segment with the Bada-based touchscreen phones. The development partners for Bada include Twitter and games companies EA Mobile, a unit of Electronic Arts Inc, and France’s Gameloft.

The new product will be launched mainly in Asian and European markets in the first half of 2010. The company will expand the number of Bada handsets and will continue using other platforms such as Microsoft Corp’s Windows Mobile, Google’s Android and Symbian.
