SAIC plans to set up new hybrid vehicle facility

Chinese automobile manufacturer Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation (SAIC) has unveiled its plan to set up a new manufacturing facility in the Hebei Province. Considering the growing demand for alternatively powered vehicles in Northern China, the facility will manufacture hybrid buses and other electrically powered vehicles. To work out its plan, SAIC has already signed a strategic collaboration deal with the government of Tangshan, Hebei Province. The facility will be located in Caofeidian Economic Development Zone in Bohai Bay.

The focus of the unit will be on manufacturing energy-conserving and environment-friendly vehicles such as hybrid buses and electric cars. Later, the company plans to expand the product portfolio to include other vehicles as well, to meet the demand in Tangshan and the Northwest region. Along with the new manufacturing facility, plans have been chalked out to market a new range of energyefficient vehicles which will include hybrid and plug-in hybrid models and self-developed electric cars. With the Chinese government offering lucrative incentives and subsidies for alternative energy vehicles, auto companies in the country anticipate a steep rise in the demand for green automobiles.
