John Deere to tap market for small tractors

The US-based construction equipment manufacturer, John Deere, has announced its plans to realign its tractor business in India. The company has set its eyes on the farming equipment market in India, for which a target has been set to launch at least two models by 2011. Discussing the company's strategy for the Indian farming equipment market, Ravi Menon, Director,Marketing and Sales, John Deere, says that earlier, thecompany brought tractors of 50 HP or more into the country. Now, realising that the Indian tractor market is more inclined towards the 31-40 HP range, John Deere has changed its strategy to tap the segment.



The company has already started making efforts towards the introduction of new tractor models in the 31-40 HP category. By 2011, plans are set to roll out its 35 HP design variants in the Indian market. Moreover, to tap the growing domestic demand, its manufacturing facility in Pune is also undergoing an upgrade so as to achieve the projected sales growth rate. Currently, the facility has an installed capacity of 45,000 units annually.
