Tata introduces new cost-effective water filter

Tata Group has recently launched a new economical water filter in India. Commercially known as ‘Swachh’ and available with a 19-litre filtration capacity, the filter will especially cater to the clean water needs of mass consumers in India. The product uses nanofiltration technology. According to the official statement by the Tata Group, the product has been developed by Tata Chemicals Ltd in its West Bengal plant to prevent waterborne diseases. The company plans to meet a sales target of around 1 million units in the next 12 months.



According to R Mukundan, MD, Tata Chemicals Ltd, the company has set up a manufacturing facility at Haldia in West Bengal for the purpose. There are also plans to establish another facility in the next three months. As of now, company reports say that Tata has already planned to set up additional facilities which will aim to achieve an annual production capacity of three million tonne.

Prior to the development of Swachh, considerable R&D was conducted at Tata Consultancy Services. Later, Tata Chemicals Ltd conducted test runs of the product in around 600 households in Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
