Union Power Minister to assess private sector’s contribution to the capacity addition programme
July 7, 2009, New Delhi: Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will hold separate meetings with manufacturers and independent developers to give impetus to the ongoing capacity addition programme.
The meeting with independent power producers is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on July 14, 2009. About 15 to 20 important independent developers including Tata Power and Reliance Power Ltd are expected to attend the meeting.
The contribution of private sector in the Ninth and Tenth Five Year Plans will be reviewed in the meeting. The Power Minister will also take stock of the status of projects being implemented by the private players during the Eleventh Five Year Plan.
The meeting with the equipment manufacturing companies is being convened on July 16 to discuss issues related to manufacturing capacity for Power Plant equipment.
Besides Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), several manufacturing companies including Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T), Bharat Forge, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, JSW and Toshiba are likely to attend the meeting.
The total targeted capacity for the Eleventh Five Year Plan is 78,700 MW. The target for the 100 days Programme of capacity addition by the new government is 5,653 MW.
