Since 1979, the Indian Transformer Manufacturers Association (ITMA) has been promoting the interest of the manufacturers of various types of transformers, including power transformers, auto transformers, furnace transformers and rectifiers transformers, among others. To add to this, the association takes up individual issues related to transformers and allied industry for redressal with the relevant authorities.

Some of the key activities of ITMA are as follows:

• Disseminates relevant information to members and helps them to contribute significantly to augment the present power system
• Organises conferences and seminars at national and international level to discuss/exchange latest technical knowhow
• Addresses the technical and commercial problems of members with the help of appropriate authorities and helps them in their business operations
• Keeps a  track of the latest developments in transformer technology and quality assurance

ITMA publishes a bi-monthly journal and a directory after every 2 years. The journal contains valuable articles providing information on the current scenario in the power industry, while the directory contains company details and information.
