Haas Automation Develops Innovative Drill and Tap Machine

Hass Automation, a firm based in the US, has developed a highspeed drill and tap machine with innovative design features. Officially christened the DT-1, the machine has a compact design with full milling capabilities, and a spacious 20” x 16” x 15.5” work cube and 26” x 15”T-slot table. The machine can perform tapping at a speed of 5,000 rpm due to its highperformance BT-30 taper spindle, with a top speed of 15,000 rpm. The spindle is directly connected to the motor. This enables the machine to operate silently, while maintaining high thermal stability. DT-1 is powered by a 15hp vector drive system which provides it with a peak cutting torque of 46 ftlb to perform operations such as milling and boring.

Another innovative feature of the machine is its high-speed, 20-pocket, servo-driven tool changer, which can toggle tools in an astonishing 0.8 of a second. Furthermore, DT-1 shortens cycle times and reduces noncutting time with its tool feed rate of 2400 inches per minute (IPM) combined with an acceleration rate of 1G. It has a maximum cutting feed rate of 1200 IPM, which is further facilitated with the help of its steeply-sloped internal sheet metal design that enables the transport of chips to the exit provided at the machine’s rear end.

A 45-gallon flood coolant system is provided with standard models, with options for a programmable coolant nozzle and high-pressure through-spindle coolant systems in selected designs. Moreover, to improve its repair and maintenance services, the DT-1 drill and tap machine is backed by the worldwide network of Haas Factory Outlets.
